Up for sale is a. Fixed blade knife with a very interesting background story.
It is no doubt Ka-Bar brand item, the same type that was supplied to USMC, but this Knife wasn't made in USA but in Japan. It is unknown to me when exactly this item was manufactured, but at certain point of time, probably during the Vietnam War in the 1960's or early 1970's it was supplied to the IDF and not by any Japanese entity for until the early 1990's there were very limited commercial ties between Israel and Japan and this due to fear of oil embargo by the government of Japan, so Ka-Bar brand knifes were supplied by the US or any other country. This Knife has only 1 mark JAPAN (please note that the letter "J" is not very clear) and there is no other marks, not even Ka-Bar or IDF mark.
These type of knifes were in a limited use by the. IDF Combat Engineering Corps as far as I know till the 1980's and was known as "Sakin Palasim". If I'm not mistaken since the 1980's these knifes are not in use anymore. The last time this Knife was in use - the Yom Kippur War (1973).It comes with a leather Sheath that bears IDF mark. In a circle that someone tried to remove but without success. It looks like this Sheath was modified (went through some light repairs).
Knife's overall length is approx. 30 cm / 11.81 inches. It is unknown to me which type of steel was used for its manufacturing. It has a leather cover handle and its straight edge blade is approx.17.5 cm / 7. This item is original and not a replica and it is offered for sale AS-IS without cleaning or polishing as a collectible item for display only. Previously used, there are few very light. On the blade and on the handle there are carved English letter such as A L H (and 2 more, illegible); the Sheath was modified - went through some light repairs (please see photos).
