An vintage 1944 item from WW 2. British Army BMB MK II 5 3/4 Paratrooper Steel Helmet.

This is an Helmet Steel Airborne Troops manufactured and supplied to Airborne Paratroopers in the theatre of WW2. Then the helmet was used by (Israel) IDF paratroopers in the 50's 60's. This early BMB MK II model was introduced in 1943, with the majority being dated to 1944. It is not widely issued until September 1944, although some were used by the 6th Airborne Division in Normandy in June. It was in widespread use during Operation Market Garden in September 1944 by British Airborne forces, including the 1st Airborne Divisions, the 1st Parachute Brigade and also by the 6th Airborne Divisions when they fought at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden and in Operation Varsity. The leather sweatband is stamped with the manufacturers initials, date and size shield. The following is stamped on the sweatband (slightly feint and worn). The Israeli Paratrooper Battalion 890 and Commando Unit 101 used these helmets in the 1950's and 1960's. The back leather sweatband in the liner padding is hand marked with the name in Hebrew of an Israeli Paratrooper. The Helmet is in good condition, showing some age & usage that are to be expected in a vintage piece.

Then the helmet was used by IDF paratroopers. The inside Straps and buckles of the helmet has been renovated by the IDF, but the inner leather strap is origin al. This would be a great item for actual use at reenactments or living history events and will complete your British WW2 collection. Do not let this helmet slip through your fingers!
